Sleep apnea notifications not showing? Model first, then region

Sleep apnea notifications arrived with watchOS 11, and the hardware requirements are strict: Series 9 or Ultra 2 minimum. No older watches, no SE models. On top of that, the feature is region-gated — Apple needs regulatory clearance in each country before enabling it. Hong Kong made the list. Many other countries have not. If your hardware qualifies but the feature is absent, your region is almost certainly the blocker.

Why are sleep apnea notifications not available?

Requirements: Apple Watch Series 9 or later (or Ultra 2), watchOS 11 or later, Sleep Focus enabled with at least 10 nights of sleep tracking over a 30-day period, age 18 or older, and availability in your country. If all conditions are met, device location in a supported country may also be relevant.

Hardware and software requirements

Sleep apnea notifications use the Apple Watch accelerometer to detect breathing disturbances during sleep. The feature requires Series 9, Ultra 2, or later models — older watches lack the necessary sensor processing.

You must also track sleep for at least 10 nights within a 30-day window. The feature analyzes patterns over time, so a single night of data is not enough.

  • Series 9 or Ultra 2 required
  • watchOS 11+
  • 10 nights of sleep data in 30 days
  • Age 18+

Frequently asked questions

Does changing location enable sleep apnea notifications?

Here is the hard truth: if your country is not on Apple's list, no amount of location changes, VPN usage, or device configuration will enable sleep apnea notifications. The feature is gated at the regulatory level — Apple literally cannot legally enable it where it lacks clearance. If your country IS on the list and notifications are still missing, a location mismatch is worth investigating as the next step.

Which countries support sleep apnea notifications?

Apple's watchOS feature-availability page lists supported countries. Hong Kong, the US, and many EU countries are included.
