Walking Steadiness notifications missing? Check your iPhone model

Here is a surprise: Walking Steadiness has nothing to do with your Apple Watch. It runs entirely on your iPhone, using motion sensors to track how steadily you walk over time. Carry your phone in a pocket near your waist for a few days — that is all the setup required. If notifications never appear, the culprit is usually your iPhone model (8 or newer needed), your country (region-gated), or not enough walking data yet.

Why are Walking Steadiness notifications not appearing?

Walking Steadiness uses your iPhone (not Apple Watch) motion sensors to track mobility over time. Requirements: iPhone 8 or later, enough walking data collected over several days, and availability in your country. The feature works passively — you do not need to set anything up beyond carrying your iPhone.

iPhone-based, not Watch-based

Unlike most health features, Walking Steadiness uses your iPhone's motion sensors, not your Apple Watch. Carry your iPhone in a pocket or bag near your waist for it to collect data.

It takes several days of walking data before the feature can establish a baseline and begin sending notifications.

  • iPhone 8 or later required
  • Uses iPhone motion sensors
  • Needs several days of walking data

Frequently asked questions

Does Walking Steadiness work in my country?

Start with Apple's feature-availability page. Walking Steadiness is not globally available. If your country is not on the list, no device or location setting will surface the feature. It is a straightforward country gate — unlike some health features, device location is rarely the limiting factor here.
