Diagnostic fix · Device connection
Can't connect to the device proxy
WLOC diagnostics tried to reach your device's proxy bridge (gs-loc.apple.com) but got no response. This usually means the proxy tool is running but the WLOC module rules aren't matching the traffic.
Plain English
What this means
After the VPN connects and the module is loaded, WLOC pings a special endpoint on gs-loc.apple.com through your proxy. This ping confirms that the proxy is actively intercepting and routing traffic to Apple's location servers. When this ping fails, it means traffic is not reaching the WLOC scripts — the proxy rules may not be matching.
Step 1:Confirm the proxy is online and the module is loaded
First, double-check the basics: the VPN icon is in the status bar, and the WLOC module shows as 'enabled' in your proxy tool. If either is missing, fix that first (see the VPN and module guides above).
- VPN icon in status bar = proxy is running
- Module shows as enabled/active in proxy tool
- If either is missing, go back to the VPN or module guide
Step 2:Verify module rules are matching
Open your proxy tool's connection log or recent requests list. Trigger a location request by opening Maps or any app that uses GPS. Look for requests to gs-loc.apple.com — they should show as 'modified' or 'script' rather than 'direct' or 'bypass'. If they show as 'direct', your module rules may not be matching.
- Look for gs-loc.apple.com in the proxy log
- If requests show as 'direct' or 'bypass', rules aren't matching
- Try toggling the module OFF and ON again to reload
- If using a custom config, make sure the module has higher priority than other rules
Step 3:Restart and retest
If rules are matching but the ping still fails, try: force-quit the proxy tool and reopen it, disconnect and reconnect the VPN, or switch to a different proxy node. Then rerun WLOC diagnostics.
- Force-quit and reopen the proxy tool
- Disconnect → reconnect the VPN in your proxy tool
- Try a different proxy node if available
- Rerun WLOC diagnostics after each attempt
FAQ
Why does the ping to gs-loc.apple.com fail even though my internet works?
The ping goes through your proxy to a specific Apple server. If your proxy is connected but the module rules aren't applied, the proxy will forward the request directly to Apple instead of running the WLOC script. Apple's server returns an HTML page (not JSON), which is why diagnostics says 'returned an Apple page or timed out'.

Connection working? Verify with diagnostics.
Once the device connection check passes, your proxy is correctly intercepting location traffic. The next step is to confirm that HTTPS decryption (MITM) is working — run diagnostics to check.
